      Yes. Schadenfreude. Your spelling wasn’t that far off. A compound word of Schaden (damage) and Freude (joy). Usually feeling joy at the damage of others.

      Incidentally we also have the saying “Wer den Schaden hat braucht für den Spott nicht zu sorgen.” - “The one with the damage does not have to supply the ridicule.” In its essence a little more compassionate saying. Because we also have the word “Mitgefühl”. Literally “with-feeling” eg to feel with someone together, to feel what they are feeling.
