  • I sympathize. Taxes suck even where I live and I know of places where this stuff gets a lot worse. Fundamentally, taxes only suck because someone wants them to suck. If you look at !anticorporate@lemmy.giftedmc.com you might see a pattern.

But back to your topic: I think “personalwins” or something would work. if you want it to be easy to find for the mainstream, you can look up the likely name on reddit and then search for or make such a community here. Why reddit? You might ask. It’s easy. Lemmy has A LOT of ex redditors and more are flocking in and the more familiar at least some stuff is, the easier the onboarding. just thinking ahead here. It will also make people find your comm easier.

Voyager should have a new community button somewhere although I dont know how world handles the making of a new comm. Maybe someone can answer that. Also, voyager has its own community where you can ask about tipps and tricks.

And in terms of mental health again: I still suggest a place where you can rant and not get shunned for it. It’s worth a lot. There is an autism community with a matrix chat which is nice (no need to tell me you do or dont have it, its just an example) but the question is if there is a chat for adhd folks. I think there is but not sure. Feel free to check out the community.

    Good luck

  • As many people suggested, you dont need an instance but a community.

But i wanna go over something else in your post.

Describing your experiences it sounds like youre dealing with some tough times. Please make sure you’re safe and try to get help if possible. You can do a lot of different things from here.

There are a lot of mental health centric communities already which should all federate with your current instance. Make sure to check them out.

What will probably also help if you have some hurt to deal with is a safe space where peeps dont troll you for stuff that happened to you. There are many chats that provide a safe space to talk about stuff. Sadly, they are on proprietary platforms mostly. But you could be the person to make eg a matrix chat to discuss such things.

In any case, good luck and lmk if you need more info.

Bummer. Pop os is as bulletproof as any non immutable operating system i can imagine. I have booted into pop many times without experiencing this once and same goes for others i know.

Most likely, it really is windows messing with your stuff or the ssd is on its way out. Only time I did experience similar things was when the ssd was becoming unreliable.

I did recently hear of hybernation being a problem when dual booting when someone booted into windows in between while linux was hybernating.

I’d suggest booting a boot stick with a live stick and try from there. Since pop os is made by a company selling hardware, they have a pretty strong motivation to make their distro work. Check their website too https://support.system76.com/articles/bootloader/

Let me know if you need more help.

  • Exactly what happened.

Microsoft is deliberately making it crazy hard to use linux. We’re so used to dealing with hostile relationships recently that we dont even recognize this broken situation.

Anyway, can you try installing it on separate ssd? Its rather hard to run it in dual boot because windows will frequently fuck up your bootloader and so on.

    Btw bitlocker is the encryption.

  • I can see where you’re going with this. And yes you might be overthinking but i wont blame you.

The issue currently is that the world is kinda spinning freely and kind of disintegrates. Democracy is in chaotic flight mode in many places.

You can of course make any community you like on any instance you like, generally. You should read the rules beforehand and then decide if you and your community fit on there. Some instances are tech only but most should be quite open to new ideas.

By “centrist” i meant “mainstream” which in the real world means right wing atm. At least in my opinion. On lemmy, you do have a general tilt towards the left which I view as very good but things like discussing new ideas away from capitalism or discussing history off the mainstream thoughts is more a niche thing that would probably get you dogpiled on on world for example.

    In any case, good luck.
