Same with me. They just embody relaxation and good times. Makes me smile when I hear steel drums.

Strangely enough, I could never get it to work again. Must’ve been my fault though, not God’s.

If you got it, flaunt it.
Yeah, I got taken in like this for a while.
I grew up religious and one time prayed for a friend who was going to go though a couple of surgeries and would have to eat through a straw for a few months. I prayed that I could take some of the pain for him if needed. Turned out that I had a small accident and got my first stitches the next day and my friend was able to avoid additional months of recovery because the surgeon was able to do both operations at once. I took that as a sign that my prayer had worked and believed more strongly in God. For a while until I realized that coincidences can happen and that believing in God is pretty stupid.
Albbi@lemmy.cato Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You have the ability to telekinetically manipulate objects near politicians, but they can't get injured or die before their fated lifespan is up; How do you embarass the politicians?4·2 days agoReminds me of Alcatraz vs The Evil Librarians. The main character’s talent was breaking things. Takes a while for them to turn it into something other than just a curse.
Just to show the scope of talents in the book, the main character’s grandfather was late to everything. Someone shooting at him? He’d arrive too late and the bullets would miss.
That’s a processor, not a computer.
My first computer was the Tandy 1000 RLX which also had a 286 processor in it.
Albbi@lemmy.cato Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening? June 39·4 days agoI have a reading book and a listening book on the go. Still working on Stormlight Archive book 5: Wind and Truth. The good guys just experienced another major setback, and the setbacks keep piling up. Makes it a bit hard to want to carry on even though you know most things will turn out in the end.
I’m also listening to Brandon Sanderson’s The Reckoners series. I’m on book 3 and been just loving the premise of “What if there are superheroes, but they’re all evil? What do the regular people do?”.

edit: Shouldn’t have made this a reply. Oh well.
Dead Cells is like this. And because just blocking with your shield still hurts you I only try to parry and reflect all damage while taking none. Of course, I miss almost all of my parry attempts…

Sorta like how Oreo is superior to Hydrox even though it’s the knock-off brand.
Albbi@lemmy.cato Android@lemdro.id•Fairphone releases open letter to the Community - Apologizes for 3 month support time and says the FP4 will skip Android 14 for Android 15English1·15 days agoThis is pretty sad to hear. Fairphone was next on my list of phones to try when my current phone gets too old. With the US boycott, I might have to go back to Samsung, but I hate the bloat.
There are crosswalk and bike laws, but if you were killed by a car there’d be almost no consequences for the driver. Don’t trust any car at a crosswalk and be responsible for your own safety. Take it one lane at a time and make sure the car in that lane is stopped, or at least sees you for sure and you can tell the car is stopping and not getting ready to turn or something like that. Eye contact with the driver.
Huh, cool. The Long Walk was one of my favourite Stephen King short stories. I thought it was weird that it was never made into a movie while so many others have been.
